What is an introductory Driving Lesson?

An introductory driving lesson is a great opportunity to meet your driving instructor, get comfortable in the car and find out what your lessons will involve.

It gives your instructor the chance to assess your current driving experience and level of confidence and you will fall into one of the 5 stages below and this then enables the Instructor to move forward from that stage without repeating stages already done, while you can decide whether you feel comfortable with their teaching style.

For a complete beginner, the lesson will usually include an introduction to the car and basic controls, before progressing to simple driving skills where appropriate. For those who have driven before, your instructor can assess your existing skills and identify areas that may need further development.

It isn’t just about getting a cheaper first lesson — it’s about making sure you and your instructor are the right fit from the start.

What Happens After Your Introductory Lesson?

After your introductory lesson, your instructor will discuss your progress with you and help you decide on the best way forward. This includes discussing how many driving lessons you may benefit from each week, depending on your availability, experience and learning needs.
