Become a Driving Instructor

Remember – we don’t offer fancy packages that will break the bank – with us you cab ‘pay as you go’

Part 1 – Independent Study

We offer full support whilst you study for this element . you will be required to pass a multiple choice test with 100 questions. you will be required to pass with 85%

Part 2 – 10 HOURS

We offer 10 hours of expert 1 to 1 training, focused on improving your driving ability, to develop your skills and techniques. This will include ‘Show me, Tell me’ questions to test your knowledge of basic car maintenance to help you prepare for the exam.

Your Exam is an advanced Driving Test whereby you are expected to get no more than 7 minor faults pass this and you are ready to start your training ifor your final exam in instructional ability.

PART 3 – 40 HOURS (the minimum requirement)

You will receive up to 40 hours of 1 to 1 training with a Trained Driving Instructor, who will develop your instructional ability and coach you on how to teach pupils to drive safely. This element of your training includes:

  • Core Competencies
  • Lesson Planning
  • Risk Management
  • Teaching & Learning Strategies

PDI TRAINING – 20 HOURS (the minimum requirement)

It is optional to go on a trainee Licence and beneficial if you wan tto get experience and earn at the same time. You’ll apply and be issued a trainee license once you’ve completed your Part 3 training by the DVSA, we will then sponsor you on for 6 months. This means you can start providing driving lessons while earning money every week as a potential driving instructor (PDI) with either Laugh ‘n’ Pass or 1st Drive Forward Driving School. Obtain the vital practical experience you’ll need to pass your Part 3 Exam and upon successful completion, you’ll be added to the DVSA’s register as an approved driving instructor as an (ADI).

There are currently a record number of learner drivers who need teaching due to test centre backlogs due to Covid. In the last 12 months our driving instructors hourly rates have increased on average by £3 per hour due to the high demand. Additionally, over 70% of our Driving Instructors have waiting lists, some as long as 6 months. There has never been a better time to become a driving instructor.
