Practical Driving Test
You Cannot Take Your Practical Driving Test Until Your Theory Test has been Passed
From the date of passing your theory test you have 2 Years in which to pass your practical driving test. The DSA recommend that 45 hours + of practical driving experience is required to ensure that you are a competent driver
What Are You Being Tested On?
- You will be expected to show that you can drive on our roads safely without supervision.
- You can show consideration for other road users.
- You can deal with any situation that comes across your path.
- You can carry out two manoeuvres
- You can answer 2 questions relating to the car before you drive away this is called SHOW ME TELL ME all the questions are on the link
How Long Does The Text Take?
The test will last for 40 minutes there will be time at the end for the examiner to give you your result and an overview of how well you did.
What Happens On The Day of Your test?
You will require a 2 to 3 hour lesson on the day. generally your instructor will warm you up then take you to the test centre 15 mins before the start time. Once in the waiting room your name will be called and you will be asked to sign a declaration to say the car is insured it will be if you are in the instructor’s car. The examiner will also need to see both parts to your driving licence for identification. You will then be lead outside where you will be asked to read a licence plate. You will then lead the way to your car. 2 questions will then be asked on the show me tell me. Upon completion of this the practical driving will begin.
Did You Know That You Can Take Your Driving Instructor On Your Practical Driving Test
Ask the examiner inside the test centre. The examiner will give clear instructions just as your driving instructor gives on your lessons. If you did not hear correctly then ask the examiner to repeat the direction. Listen carefully, do as asked focusing on the procedures that you have been taught. If you make a mistake just get on what you think is a fail, may not be!
Remember, The Examiner is not Looking For Perfection
He is looking to see that you have the POTENTIAL to become a good driver on our roads.
MANOEUVRES - 2 OUT OF 4 WILL BE DONE ON TEST
- Parallel Park - Parking between 2 cars the second being imaginary or parking bay
- Turn in the road -Turn now you may turn the car round in up to 7 moves
- Reverse into a road on your left
- An emergency stop AT THE END OF THE TEST
At the end of the test you will be told whether you have passed or not, if you fail you will be given the reasons, It's a good idea to let your instructor listen then you may be able to retrace the test later Click on this logo to book your test
Ensure that your instructor has given you the go ahead. If not any instructor has the right to refuse the use of their car on the day. DO NOT take it upon yourself to book, the examiner is not a driving instructor and there policy is to let pupils commit before intervening in a dangerous situation. Too many pupils ask us to just allow them to have a go. Under no circumstances will we put someone’s life at risk all pupils should be ready on the day. |

For those pupils that have passed with Laugh 'n' Pass your chance to say a few words to your instructor.

Ask our instructors any question about learning to drive. Don't worry if you're not a client, we're happy to help anyone!

So come on - no shame who has failed the test the most. Tell us about your test experiences.
