Caravan Towing Course

Are you new to caravanning or just want to understand all the ins and outs, whatever the reason we can help. From on road towing lessons to reversing, Laugh 'n' Pass can help.

Our Caravan towing lessons are structured to your individual needs. All training is given by experienced driving instructors and can be done on a minimum of 2hours per session.

When did you pass your driving Test?

Did you know that drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to tow large trailers and gain entitlement to category B+E and all larger vehicles.

The Driving Test

The B+E test is conducted in a DSA large goods vehicle driving test centre with an off road manoeuvring and braking area.

The test lasts about 90 minutes. A VERY HIGH standard of driving is required to pass this type of test.

At the start of the test you are required to carry out an eye sight test. The car and trailer test (B+E) is based on the lorry driving test and lasts for approximately one hour. Please note that B+E tests are conducted at vocational (bus and lorry) driving test centres.

The towing test includes vehicle safety questions to which we will provide you with the standard questions, an off-road reverse manoeuvre, a controlled stop, uncoupling and coupling of the trailer and driving on the road. You won't be expected to carry out the following exercises:emergency stop on the public road, reversing round a corner, reverse parking, turning in the road

You will drive in varying roads and traffic conditions including motorways where possible, complete uphill, downhill and angled starts and demonstrate a high standard of driving throughout.

Back at the test centre you will then unhitch the vehicle from the trailer, you are then required to re couple the trailer safely.

For the car and trailer (B+E) towing test we will tailor a course to suit depending on your driving and towing experience, to get you to the DSA vocational test standard. A theory test or medical is not required for the B+E test.
